Simple Quarantine Tips + Tricks.

Monday, May 18, 2020

Quarantine is a weird thing. Some days I'm ready and willing to clean and renovate my entire room, and other days my interest can't even be held by a TV show that I normally love. So if you've been feeling like that to any extent, just know that you ain't the only one.

I've been home from school for a week and a half now, and sometimes time moves so slowly in quarantine that it feels like I've been home for at least a month and a half. I find that it's hard to find a semblance of normal because usually when I'm at home, I see two or three friends each week and I'm used to working each Sunday as well.

Motivation has been relatively hard to come by for me lately but this evening I have a post-dinner burst of energy (and a desire to write!!!), so I thought I'd take advantage of that and share some lil tips that have been helpful for me in trying to adjust to this new state of "normal".

1. Have some type of routine going.

While this one can seem to be a bit tough during this time, it doesn't have to be a super complicated and detailed routine! I have an app where I just check off things and get points for completing them. During quarantine, I've put things in my daily schedule that I know I can get done every day, and it makes me feel decently accomplished. Things like: reading my Bible, journalling, FaceTiming my boyfriend, filling out this little Q&A a day book I have, taking time to pray, making my bed. They're simple tasks, but I get 'em done every day and get to check 'em off.

2. Get into a new show!

Sometimes I get overwhelmed because I have waaay too many shows on the go that I haven't finished yet, but last week I decided to let go of that feeling and just start fresh with something new! I chose Chicago PD; I have a friend who loves this show so it's great to have someone to text about it all the time - especially during this time where it's easy to isolate yourself even via text/social media.

3. Go for walks.

I cannot stress this one enough! Going for walks was huge for me while I was still at school because that was the only thing we were allowed to do outside of the house. Now that I'm back home, I still rarely go anywhere, but even just getting a walk gets me moving and into the fresh air.

4. Open windows.

If you're feeling meh and don't want to go for a walk - or you've already gone on one - open your windows to let that fresh air come to you! That way you can feel just a little bit more easy breezy while you're watchin Netflix haha.

5. Journal.

Since coming back home, I've started journalling again. I used to be super into it, and now I can tend to be more on and off with it. But since I'm in a long distance relationship now, I wanted to pick it back up to document that journey, and tbh my journal has now turned into half long distance, half quarantine documentation. Both will be interesting to look back on in the future. Journalling is a great way to get your feelings, thoughts, fears, and anxieties out of your head.

6. Do something small, but productive.

I hadn't done anything productive since Thursday; I've been caught in a bit of a quarantine slump. But today I made myself change my sheets and vacuum my room and my closet, and they were small tasks but made me feel like I'd accomplished something. There's no need to revamp your whole house in one day! Just do something simple but beneficial in the grand scheme of things.

7. Stay in touch with people!

This one was tougher for me when I was living in a house with eleven other people, and now that I'm back home I won't start saying that I'm amazing at it or anything. But there's something about getting out of your own head and routine, and checking in with a friend and asking how they're doing. It's really easy to send a text... and we're all on our own phones anyway! And like I said before, even though we're in an age of technology and social media, it can be easy during quarantine to not send texts and end up isolating yourself even more. We're all struggling with this in one way or another, so let's help each other out!

I'll end on that note. I know these aren't earth-shattering or life-changing tips by any means. But maybe even one of them is a good reminder for you.

And I stand by my last point; we're all struggling with this pandemic and new normal in one way or another, so it's important to try and support each other as much as possible. Let me know if you have any other tips! I'm always open to more helpful tricks.
