Reasons to be Thankful

Monday, October 9, 2017

Today is Thanksgiving, and something that I've struggled with over the past number of weeks is remembering to be truly thankful to the Lord for what He's blessed me with. Being a mortal being, I can often get so caught up in the small (or big) inconveniences of day-to-day life that I forget about the simple (or bigger) blessings and things that I should be thankful for.

So here are a few things that ya girl has been super thankful for recently...

Intentional friendships. It's nice to be kind to people and check in on them and really want to know how they're doing. I'm cool with small talk here and there, but one of my fav things is going for a two hour coffee date with someone and hearing about where they're at, what God has been doing in their life, what they think of their courses this semester, how things are in their relationship, and knowing that they want to know the same information about my life. So. Good.

The truths of Scripture. In this world that's full of earthquakes, hurricanes, death, confusion, doubts, and questions, it's so comforting knowing that I have an omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent Saviour on my side. I never have to fear or be anxious (even though I sometimes still am...) because I know that Jesus is good and He's never going to let me down. He's loved me unconditionally since my conception, and He'll continue to do so until I see Him in glory forever. Jesus is SO amazing. I'm obsessed.

Coffee. Legit I'm super grateful for that caffeinated stuff - especially the sugar-ridden beverages that are topped with whipped cream #noshame. Honestly I'm pretty sure I'd just end up sleeping through my entire fourth year if I didn't love coffee.....

Spotify. Y'all, I'm thankful for the big things and the small ones. I just got Spotify a few weeks ago, anD IDEK WHAT I DID WITHOUT IT(?!). I listen to my fav jams on there all the time! Luv it.

LipSense. Holla at my sweet friend Tat who introduced me to this smudge-proof, stay-all-day lipstick line. I can wear the simplest outfit, and then put that stuff on and feel SO put together. It's the little things.

My internship. Remember that time in my first year when I swore I'd drop out before fourth so I wouldn't have to be an intern? Welp, here I am being thankful that I have this opportunity. My internship supervisor is an amazing guy who's so gracious (not to mention hilarious - and sassy), and he's been teaching me a lot since the start of September. I'm often still terrified when I'm given new responsibilities, but I know that the Lord will strengthen me for every task that He wants me to accomplish for His glory.

Grace. Life is so crazy at all times, and it makes me so thankful for grace. Grace for my failures, grace for the assignments that I end up doing super last minute because I was busy practicing for my recital (or procrastinating letsbehonest), grace for the million times that I've consumed McDonalds or half a pizza because I didn't feel like cooking dinner. Most of the time I don't excel at being gracious towards myself in any circumstance, so I'm thankful that the Lord, my friends, and my family are full of grace, and that they're all bold enough to remind my stubborn self to chill out for a hot minute and extend grace to myself.

There's so much more that I'm thankful for in this life, but these are some standout things that I've been thankful over the past month and a bit since I've moved back to school.

Happy Thanksgiving y'all! Let's try to be more thankful at all times - not just on this pumpkin spice, turkey-filled, crunchy leaf-y, fall day. Thanksgiving isn't just a holiday on the calendar; thanksgiving is an attitude of the heart.
